Hair Loss in Women after Pregnancy

Hair fall in clumps is a common symptom after pregnancy and childbirth because during pregnancy there is a hormone called estrogen is increased in women’s body and this hormone freezes hair in the growing or resting phase. After childbirth estrogen levels decline from the body, therefore hair that was in resting phase starts falling out.

About three months following delivery, hair may fall out quite suddenly but this temporary hair loss doesn't mean you are going to be bald or it is deficient in nutrition and vitamins. It is a temporary phase of hair fall and greatly due to hormonal disturbances. Just take care of hair and wait until the growth return to its normal phase. You can’t stop hair loss after pregnancy but there is so much you can do to protect your hair from getting falling out.

·       Nutritional deficiency after pregnancy is quite common among women, leading to too much hair loss or thinning hair. Therefore make sure you are getting all the essential nutrients. Supplements can also be consumed after doctor recommendation.

·       Eat plenty of fruits and green vegetables, nuts, whole grains, milk, pulses as it provides nourishment to both the mother and baby.

·       Be gentle with your hair like stay away from tight hairstyles, don’t use heating tools, use widely spaced teeth comb, avoid colouring, perms, and other chemical treatments.

·       After pregnancy the texture of hair is changed, so keep hair moisturized.

·       The most important step is a visit to a professional hair stylist and seeks advice for the best possible haircut that will give your hair more fullness.

·       Highlighting the hair is a great way to give hair all over shine and it also hides the receding hairline.
